“We are in power with people's support” - Kiran Kumar Reddy at Kadapa

Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy on Tuesday ridiculed YSR Congress Party president Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy's claims and said the Congress was in power at nobody's mercy but with the solid support of people.

Addressing public meetings at Proddatur, Pulivendula and Kadapa in his day-long campaign in the Kadapa and Pulivendula by-elections, the Chief Minister urged the people to defeat Jagan, who had necessitated the by-elections posing a heavy burden on the exchequer to further his selfish interests. This would make him understand that his political growth would have been facile had he continued in the Congress.

Lambasting Mr. Jaganmohan Reddy, the Chief Minister said that the YSR Congress had no philosophy, agenda or programme and had no right to keep YSR's portrait in the party flag. He also questioned Mr Jagan's propriety in having the government schemes in the party flag, as they were schemes conceived by the Congress. Charging the former MP with double-speak, he recalled that his latest threat to oust the Congress government within six months contradicted his earlier assertion that he would not destabilise the government which gained power under his father's leadership. Accusing Mr. Jagan of quitting the Congress despite being offered a Union Minister's berth, he said the former was seeing the Chief Ministership like a horse having "blinkers" to prevent its vision from being distracted from the road. He charged Mr. Jagan with being unable to bear his paternal uncle Y.S. Vivekananda Reddy accepting a Cabinet berth.

Tribute to YSR

Former Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, who never lost an election in his 33-year political career, was patronised by the people of Pulivendula, because he was loyal to the Congress, Mr. Kiran Kumar Reddy recalled.

The Chief Minister said Dr. Rajasekhara Reddy wished that AICC general secretary Rahul Gandhi should become Prime Minister in 2014 and often attributed his political growth to being in the Congress. YSR waited patiently for three decades for getting the top post in the State and Rajampet MP A. Sai Prathap became Union Minister after being elected for six terms, but Mr. Jagan wants to become Chief Minister within two years of his father's demise, he added. He promised to complete all the pending projects in Kadapa district by sanctioning Rs. 2,000 crore to irrigate six lakh acres, continue all schemes launched by YSR .
