KADAPA: Yogi Vemana University students boycotted classes, staged a rasta-roko and enforced a bandh on the campus on Friday under the aegis of All-India Students Federation (AISF) demanding that the government sanction and release Rs. 100 crore each to the eight universities established in the State during YSR rule.

AISF district president G. Madduleti and its secretary P. Mahesh accused the Union government of starving indigenous universities of funds and inviting foreign universities into the country.
They demanded removal of political functionaries on the university senate councils and replace them with academicians and students.

They demanded filling of vacant teaching and non-teaching posts, sanction of Rajiv National Fellowships to backward class and minority students, conduct of elections to student unions as recommended by J.M. Lyngdoh Committee and enhancement of mess charges from Rs. 540 to Rs. 1,500.
