Bedlam in Kadapa civic meeting

KADAPA: Bedlam prevailed in the last general body meeting of Kadapa Municipal Corporation on Wednesday with Kadapa Mayor P. Raveendranatha Reddy suspending Telugu Desam Party floor leader V.S. Ameer Babu for 15 minutes for his remarks against him and Congressmen demanding his apology to the Mayor and necking him out of the meeting.

Mr. Ameer Babu's remarks that the Mayor, who was booked under Section 420 IPC for irregularities in his fertilizer factory, failed to ensure development during his tenure, led to frayed tempers and Deputy Mayor K. Nabi Rasool and several corporators demanding his apology. When he refused to budge, he was suspended and the corporators forced him out of the meeting. Resenting the action, Mr. Ameer Babu squatted in protest before the corporation office along with TDP corporators Hymavathi and Nagaraju.

Mr. Ameer Babu rejoined the meeting after Municipal SE Uma Maheswara Reddy invited him. The TDP leader opposed proposals to set up YSR statue at Machupalle bus stand and when Congressmen denounced his stand, he squatted in protest again. Thereupon, the Mayor suspended him for the rest of the meeting and police took him out. The meeting approved installation of the statue.

Chairing the meeting, the Mayor said proposals were sent to the government to spend Rs. 293 crore during the next five years for providing basic amenities in a phased manner in 202 slum areas in Kadapa city.
The corporation was sanctioned Rs. 2.68 crores through 13th Finance Commission for collection and disposal of domestic waste and construction of a new garbage dumping yard near Kanumulopalle.

The meeting approved proposals put forth by Sri Muralikrishna temple chairman to hand over 29 cents of land in lieu of the construction of the temple at Dwarakanagar without formal permission.
