Ramgopal Varma gets ‘threatening' calls

HYDERABAD: Filmmaker Ramgopal Varma on Sunday said he had received threatening calls on his phone from people who said they would take ‘drastic action' if he portrayed Sane Obul Reddy, the faction leader from Anantapur district in ‘bad light' in his forthcoming film ‘Rakta Charitra', in Telugu ,Tamil and Hindi.
It may be recalled that Mr. Varma is close to completing shooting the first part of the film that is said to be based on the vicious factions of Anantapur district in Rayalaseema region.

While actor Surya is playing the role of Gangula Suryanarayana Reddy alias Suri, Bollywood's Vivek Oberoi has essayed the role of Paritala Ravi, former Telugu Desam MLA from Penukonda, who was murdered.

On Sunday, the filmmaker said in a press release that he was not afraid of Obul Reddy's supporters. Apart from receiving a legal notice from them, he was also threatened over phone that if he portrayed the Gangula and Sane families in bad light, he would face action other than what could be done legally.

He wondered how one would be able to gauge the portrayal of the characters unless he sees the movie.
