KADAPA: Although inflow of water into Kundu river from Rajoli and Nandyal slightly decreased by Thursday evening, officials have been asked to be alert in view of a flash flood affecting 23 villages in five mandals in Mydukur, Proddatur and Jammalamadugu Assembly constituencies in Kadapa district in October 2009.
Jammalamadugu Revenue Divisional Officer M. Venkatasubba Reddy on Thursday asked the officials to be alert as the Kundu river was on spate and eight low-lying villages in Peddamudiyam, Rajupalem, Duvvur, Chapadu and Proddatur mandals face the threat of inundation if inflow of water increases further.

A control room was started in Jammalamadugu RDO office to monitor the inflow into Kundu river.
The discharge of 15,500 cusecs of water at Rajoli on Thursday morning increased to 23,176 cusecs by evening. However, the inflow of 48,000 cusecs of water at Nandyal in the morning fell to 21,520 cusecs this evening, the RDO said.

The inflow into Kundu river might rise if heavy inflows were received and hence the officials were placed on the alert and villagers forewarned to be prepared to move out of the villages if needed, Mr. Venkatasubba Reddy said.
