KAKINADA: Kadapa MP YS Jagan Mohan Reddy remains as defiant as ever. If anything, his 18-day Odarpu Yatra in East Godavari district, which ended on Thursday, seems to have emboldened him.Buoyed by an impressive gathering, including over 20 MLAs, five MLCs and Social Welfare Minister P Subhash Chandra Bose, at a public meeting here at the Netaji Park this evening, the young MP took potshots at Chief Minister K Rosaiah and the party high command indirectly and warned them that his patience was running out.Though he wanted to take the government and the party to task, he toned down a bit on the advice of his loyalist MLAs. A few hours before the meeting, the legislators conferred with him at the residence of Kakinada MLA Dwarampudi Chandrasekhara Reddy and requested him to go slow.Jagan’s die-hard loyalist Ambati Rambabu had said in the afternoon itself that Jagan might not say anything that could hurt the party, suggesting that his leader was not ready, as yet, to break ranks with the party leadership. Yet, the irrepressible Jagan just could not hide his displeasure over the attitude of the party and the government towards him in general and his yatra in particular. He spoke for 20 minutes. But in those 20 minutes, he fired a few salvos.

“The State government should have paid money, say Rs 2-3 lakh to those families,” he said referring to the kin of those who had died in the wake of his father the late chief minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy’s sudden demise. He advised the government to introspect whether the bereaved families deserved help and questioned if they were not among those who had helped the Congress retain power.Describing the adverse comments being made against his yatra as indicative of “debased” politics, he said such portrayal of his “noble cause” was forcing him to repeat why he had taken it up in the first place.

“It was a promise I had made at Pavuralagutta, the place where my father died,” he asserted and wondered for how long his patience would last. “I am not sure,” he said, indicating that he might soon be on a collision course with the party high command. The MLAs who were present at the public meeting included D Chandrasekhara Reddy, R Varaprasad, N Sesha Reddy and Raja Ashok Babu (all from East Godavari). The MLAs from outside the district included Neeraja Reddy (Alair), Alla Nani (Eluru), Adinarayana Reddy (Jammalamadugu), K Srinivasulu (Railway Koduru), R Ramachandra Reddy (Rayadurgam), Srikanth Reddy (Rayachoti), Amarnath Reddy (Rajampet), M Prasada Raju (Narsapuram), Balaraju (Polavaram), K Surekha (Parakala), Gurunadha Reddy (Anantapur), K Satyavathy (Bhadrachalam), YV Reddy (Sattupalli), M Sivaprasad Reddy (Udayagiri), Jogi Ramesh (Pedana) and P Satish Kumar (Mummidivaram).
