Seeking justice: Medical representatives demonstrating in front of Kadapa Collectorate
KADAPA: Medical representatives went on a two-day strike in Kadapa district on Tuesday and staged a demonstration before Kadapa Collectorate demanding a parliamentary inquiry into violation of Sales Promotion Employees Act by pharmaceutical companies and penal action against the erring ones.
Federation of Medical Representatives Association of India general council member G. Reddappa Reddy, A.P. Medical and Sales Representatives union State committee member Manohar, vice-president P. Venkateswarlu, joint secretary Sridhar and treasurer V. Prasad wanted the Union government to initiate measures to regulate the prices of 254 essential medicines and direct all pharmaceutical companies to manufacture essential drugs.

They wanted increased vigilance to check sale of spurious drugs in the open market and enforcing an eight-hour work schedule a day for medical representatives.

Anantapur Staff Reporter adds: Andhra Pradesh Medical And Sales Representatives Union in response to a call for a two- day strike by the national body has staged a dharna at the Tower Clock Junction in the city in support of their demands on Tuesday. Local union secretary Ganganna addressing participants demanded that the Central and State governments bring down the prices of medicines, lift excise duty on essential commodities and prepare a list essential and emergency medicines and order the pharmaceutical companies to manufacture them to make them easily available to the common man at affordable prices.

Tirupati Special Correspondent adds: In response to call given by the Federation of Medical and Sales Representatives Association of India for a 2-day nation-wide demonstration, members of the association held a protest programme here on Tuesday in front of the Corporation Building.
