KADAPA: The controversy revolving around the ancient Sri Agasteswara Swamy temple in Proddatur in the wake of a protest launched by Telugu Desam Party MLA of Proddatur Mallela Linga Reddy blew over, with the temple committee members reopening the temple and priests performed pooja on Wednesday evening.

A.P. Pradhana Archaka Sangham president Soundararajan visited temple today and held discussions with Mr. Linga Reddy, who is staging a protest along with his followers demanding reopening of the temple which has been closed for the last three months.

Discussions held
A joint committee comprising Mr. Soundararajan, endowments officials and trade union leader Tapathi Velu held discussions with Mr. Linga Reddy for finding an amicable solution to the issue. The MLA explained to the committee members about instances of corruption and “Vaasthu dosha” in the temple, which needs to be corrected.

Removal of the installed “navagraha” in the ancient temple and polishing them would lead to “arishtam” and would not augur well for Proddatur, Mr. Soundararajan remarked. He found fault with diverting water from the sanctum sanctorum of the temple to a nearby drain and constructing structures higher than the gali gopuram of Sri Agasteswara Swamy temple in the vicinity were lapses which must be rectified, he said.

Relay fast
The Government must probe instances of corruption. The committee members inspected the temple in detail.
Earlier, two devotees Pratap Reddy and Kondaiah launched relay fast demanding reopening of the temple.
