EMRI 108 service turns five

KADAPA: EMRI 108 service is one of the schemes that is running effectively despite teething troubles and obstacles, district Collector Shashi Bhushan Kumar said on Friday.

Participating in the fifth anniversary celebrations of EMRI 108 service at IMA Hall here, the Collector said the ambulance service was extending yeoman services to people at a nominal expenditure, compared to any other scheme. It helped save the lives of 2,753 persons and earned the goodwill of people, he stated. Kadapa Mayor P. Raveendranatha Reddy said former Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy had conceived the EMRI 108 ambulance services in order to assist people during exigencies. It was subsequently introduced in other States, he said. Regional Manager of EMRI 108 service K. Suresh said 1,60,533 accident victims were saved and 38,170 pregnant women were shifted to hospitals for delivery and in some cases, women delivered a child in the ambulances. Deputy Mayor K. Nabi Rasool, EMRI 108 staff and technicians participated.
