Attack on lecturers sparks widespread protests

KADAPA: Praja Rajyam students' wing functionaries burnt an effigy of Telangana Students JAC near Koti Reddy circle here on Sunday, deploring the attack on lecturers of other regions in Hyderabad.

Demand action
Praja Rajyam leader B. Gurrappa and functionaries condemned the attack and demanded stern action against the culprits by booking criminal cases on them. Attack on lecturers by students was a heinous act, they alleged. They urged Telangana movement leaders not to instigate students and ruin their future.

Bandh call
Rayalaseema Students Joint Action Committee (RSJAC) leaders called for a bandh of educational institutions in Kadapa district on August 30, in protest against yesterday's attack on lecturers on Osmania University campus.
RSJAC members P. Suresh, M. Ramana, N. Vinayak, Gurrappa and Moulana on Sunday appealed to the managements of colleges and schools to voluntarily close down the institutions on Monday and observe bandh, in protest against the heinous action meted out to the lecturers who were on official duty at the invitation of the Osmania University.

Cleanse statue
The RJAC cleansed the statue of teacher and former President Sarvepalle Radhakrishna with milk in front of Kadapa DEO office on Sunday deploring yesterday's attack on non-Telangana lecturers on Osmania University campus in Hyderabad.

RJAC convenor P. Suresh and co-convenor M. Ramana condemned the attack on lecturers who went for valuation and demanded booking of criminal cases on those guilty.

Such attacks recurred owing to the government's laxity, they said. Officials and persons of Telangana living in Rayalaseema and coastal Andhra regions were being given due regard, they said.

The RJAC leaders demanded arrest and expulsion of students who resorted to the attack in OU. RJAC members Kishore Reddy, Nagendra Naik, Srinivas, Nagaraju, Uday and Vikram participated.

SKU flays attack
Anantapur Staff Reporter adds: Several political leaders and student organisations of Sri Krishnadevaraya University have in separate statements condemned the inhuman attack on lecturers from Rayalaseema and coastal Andhra by the Osmania University JAC activists on Friday.

The leaders maintained that the lecturers were there at the invitation of the Osmania University Vice-Chancellor and attacking the guest lecturers from other regions amounted to insulting the invited guests.

Government chief whip Sailajanath condemned the attack and attributed the same to a conspiracy by TRS Chief Chandrasekhar Rao and Kodandaramaiah.

Meanwhile student unions of Sri Krishnadevaraya University have unanimously condemned the attack and warned them that such attacks would only trigger counter attacks on Telangana people in other regions.

Kurnool bandh
Kurnool Special Correspondent adds: Rayalaseema University Joint Action Committee (JAC) and Rayalaseema Student organization called for educational institutions bandh in Kurnool on Monday to protest against attack on invigilators from other regions at Osmania University a few days ago.

The students' leaders condemned the attack on the teachers saying it height of Telengana chauvinism because the teachers went there to discharge their duties.

Meanwhile, Teachers' Guild leaders Victor Immanuel and PBV Subbaiah and others condemned the attack on the teachers. They urged the leaders of different regions to keep educational institutions away from political activities.
